Organized Play
Organized Play is Riot's name for the official Riftbound event programme, running from a casual night at a shop near you all the way to a world championship. This page explains how the 2026 structure works, what changes in 2027, and where a player in Thailand can actually stand in it.

Vocabulary
Three tiers of event
Riot's Tournament Rules define three tiers. These are the official words rather than a community re-cut, and they are worth using precisely.
- Premier
- Run by Riot Games or by an official organizer, with names and features of their own.
- Qualifier
- Any competition offering rewards or access to a premier event. This is the rung that carries you upward.
- Local
- Anything that is neither of the above. Mostly the weekly night at a shop, and where almost everybody starts.
2026, store level
The three programmes a local shop can run
These are the three programmes a shop taking part in Organized Play can run in 2026. The first two are casual. The third is the bottom rung of the competitive ladder.
| Event | Cadence | Format |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-Rift | The week before each set releases | Sealed |
| Nexus Nights | Weekly, on the shop's chosen day | The shop's choice |
| Summoner Skirmish | Twice per set | 1v1 Constructed |
- Pre-Rift
- The prerelease event. You are handed packs and build from what you open, which makes it the single easiest event for a newcomer to enter, because nobody has a practised deck either.
- Nexus Nights
- The weekly night. A shop can run it as 1v1, as 2v2 or as a free for all. It is casual and does not feed the competitive ladder.
- Summoner Skirmish
- The bottom rung of the actual competitive ladder in 2026, played with a deck you built. It is the first event that feels like competition.
Summoner Skirmish used to award a first round bye at Regional Qualifiers. That has been discontinued; the remaining Skirmishes through the Radiance set still run, with larger prizing instead.
2026, premier level
Three rungs to the world stage
The competitive ladder is 1v1 Constructed at every level. The first rung is open to anybody. The second and third require qualification.
- 1
Regional Qualifier
Open to all
No qualification required at all: buy a badge and play. This is the real front door for anybody wanting into competition. The first one was held in December 2025.
- 2
Regional Championship
Qualification required
The next level up, reached by performing at the level below. The first was held in October 2026.
- 3
Worlds
Qualification required
The end of the competitive season, reached through the Regional Championship level. The first one is scheduled for 2027.
Alongside the official ladder, the Riftbound Showdown Series is run by third party tournament organisers across many regions. It is serious competition that sits outside these three rungs.
Formats
The numbers to know before you go
These come straight from Riot's Tournament Rules. If you are going to an event, memorise the first two lines.
- 1v1 Constructed
- A main deck of exactly 40 including your Chosen Champion, one Legend, 12 runes, and exactly three Battlefields with no two sharing a name. This is the format of every premier event.
- Limited and Sealed
- Six booster packs, a 25 card main deck, and a choice of any three domains or one domain plus the domains of a Champion Legend you opened. Every card you did not play is automatically your sideboard.
- Swiss and Playoff
- Swiss rounds pair by standings, with around fifty minutes recommended per round and matches typically best of three. Playoff rounds are single elimination and untimed where possible.
- 2v2
- Supported as a casual event format, and it has a ban list of its own separate from ordinary Constructed. Check that list before you take a deck to one.
Thailand
Where a player here starts
Thailand is officially served. Store level detail, though, is something we will not vouch for on somebody else's behalf, so this section links the official sources and lets them answer.
- Riot announced English language Riftbound distribution into Southeast Asia, and Thailand is among the countries named in that announcement.
- Organized Play is administered through UVS Games rather than by Riot directly. A shop wanting to run sanctioned events goes through UVS.
- The official store and event locator has Thailand as a selectable country. Its results load from their own system, which is why we print no store count and no event list here: a number like that would be wrong within weeks.
- No premier event has been held in Thailand. The nearest one is in Singapore.
Regional Qualifier Singapore, 4 Sept 2026 to 6 Sept 2026
Those are the announced dates. We found a small inconsistency between the announced dates and the publication date of the official preview article, so please confirm against the official event calendar before you book a flight.
Find a shop or an event near you through the official locator. Select Thailand in the filters and it will always answer with what is current.
If you want to judge
The Riftbound judge path also runs through UVS Games: the official Rules Hub points prospective judges at a UVS test and certification. If you are in Thailand and you want events to happen here, this is one of the most direct routes to making that true.
2027
The restructure that is announced but has not started
Riot announced on 4 August 2026 that Organized Play is being restructured for 2027, and almost every name changes. Nothing in this section is running yet; the sections above are the programme in effect today.
- Nexus Cup
- A new monthly store tournament with a local champion, deliberately kept outside the competitive ladder.
- Riftbound Challenge Series
- Replaces Summoner Skirmish as the bottom rung of the competitive ladder, running at a curated network of shops rather than at every shop.
- Riftbound Regionals
- Renamed from Regional Qualifiers, with roughly three to four per set and a more even spread around the world.
- Riftbound Continentals
- Replaces Regional Championships. Four marquee destinations a year, one tied to each set, run over three days with an open day one qualifier so anybody can play in.
- Riftbound World Championship
- The season finale, closing the system as it does now.
Shops begin moving to a new platform called the Riftbound Gaming Network from 14 Sept 2026, expected to be in use for the Radiance set's events onward.
Summoner Skirmish keeps running through the Radiance set and then retires. If you want to play that format, this is the last season for it.
